AROHO A Foundation For Women Artists and Writers

Gift of Freedom

Awards Criteria

1. Grants will be awarded to deserving women on an objective and non-discriminatory basis. The purpose of the grant is to achieve a specific, qualifiable literary or artistic objective: the production of a creative project by the grantee.

2. A recipient of a grant must be able to meet definite artistic criteria, including the following:

  1. Personal artistic objective to be realized over the grant period;
  2. Definite project goal;
  3. Spiritual aspect—at what level does the applicant's art represent her spiritual identity and endeavor to further that identity?;
  4. Unconditional moral contract to produce a certain project.

3. The individual must be a U.S. citizen.

4. Community benefit will be considered in the selection of the recipient. At the completion of the sponsorship period, community benefit would include:

  1. To what extent will the artistic objective benefit the larger community;
  2. How the applicant proposes that the results of her work will be made available to the general public;
  3. The willingness of the applicant to mentor other women artists in the future;
  4. The recipient's willingness to contribute to tax exempt charitable organizations, including A Room Of Her Own, if the work produced as a result of the grant provides income in the future.
Note on financial resources:
Silent Movie Theater

The inclusion of your financial/employment history in the application process is to provide insight into your life from a different perspective than through your essays. This added information helps us ascertain your financial competency. AROHO needs to be confident that you have the ability to manage your finances impeccably during the sponsorship period.

There are no absolute income limits for award eligibility; however, the Gift of Freedom is intended to be the critical factor in the woman being able to produce her art.
