Without a Map has received glowing reviews from publications including People, O Magazine, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, Entertainment Weekly, More Magazine, Library Journal and The Boston Globe. It has been named a Book Sense pick for the month of May and has also received an Elle Reader's Choice Award. Meredith Hall completed her first book, Without a Map, while freed from other responsibilities by the 2004 Gift of Freedom Grant from AROHO.

A Room of Her Own 2005 Retreat for Committed Women Writers in Ghost Ranch, New Mexico
August 22nd - August 27th, 2005

A Room of Her Own Foundation thanks all of those who attended this year's retreat and helped, once again, to create an extraordinary experience for faculty, administrators, and retreatants alike. This year's highlights included intensely focused workshops and classes and nightly readings by faculty and retreatants amidst the beauty of Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico. Workshops this year were lead by a spectacular faculty including authors Rebecca Brown, Breena Clarke, Kim Addonizio, Antonya Nelson, and literary agent Jody Rein. Publishing coach Maggie Lichtenberg offered one-on-one sessions, and guest speakers included poet and musician Joy Harjo 2004 Gift of Freedom recipient Meredith Hall, writer and painter Mira Bartók, and poet Marguerite Maria Rivas.

A Room of Her Own Announces Scholarship to the
2006 Taos Summer Writer's Conference

Taos Summer Writers Conference

A Room of Her Own Foundation will be providing a scholarship for one woman to attend this year’s Taos Summer Writer’s Conference.  The scholarship is for tuition remission (up to $550) to any U.S. woman writer. 

Applications are due May 15th.   Scholarship to be announced June 1st.
 
The conference will be held from July 7th – July 14th, 2006 in Taos, NM.  This year's faculty includes Pam Houston, Amy Beeder, Dan Mueller, Julie Mars, Anya Achtenberg, and many others.

2003-04 Literary Gift of Freedom Award for Creative Nonfiction Recipient

"GODFATHER" AWARDS $50,000 TO WOMAN WRITER

SANTA FE, New Mexico—Although he's not the "Godfather" of soul, Lee Gutkind, the man Vanity Fair magazine dubbed the "Godfather" of creative nonfiction, was making somebody feel good. And that somebody was the third annual $50,000 Gift of Freedom award recipient.
