Family Policy

Policy on presence of family members at the retreat.

Since the AROHO Retreat is designed to foster artistic and intellectual freedom for at least a week during a woman writer’s busy year by providing her a room of her own, far from daily concerns and distractions, AROHO strongly encourages women writers to enter upon this experience alone, leaving spouses, partners, and children at home, creating a gift of freedom for everyone involved.

If special circumstances recommend that others be present, the Retreat Coordinator will review each case individually, keeping the best interests of all at heart. We also urge everyone to remember that even if a woman’s obligations may keep her from attending a retreat in any given year, circumstances may change to enable her to attend the retreat at another time.
